Before we begin:
Before we begin, it's important that we know Windows, Unix or MAC. A working knowledge of Windows, Unix or MAC makes it much easier to learn HTML.
We should be familiar with:
- Basic word processing using any text editor.
- How to create directories and files.
- How to navigate through different directories.
- Basic understanding on internet browsing using a browser like Internet Explorer or Firefox etc.
Introducing HTML:
HTML stands for Hyper Text Markup Language, and it is the most widely used language to write Web Pages. As its name suggests, HTML is a markup language.
HTML stands for Hyper Text Markup Language, and it is the most widely used language to write Web Pages. As its name suggests, HTML is a markup language.
- Hypertext refers to the way in which Web pages (HTML documents) are linked together. When you click a link in a Web page, you are using hypertext.
- Markup Language describes how HTML works. With a markup language, you simply "mark up" a text document with tags that tell a Web browser how to structure it to display.
Originally, HTML was developed with the intent of defining the structure of documents like headings, paragraphs, lists, and so forth to facilitate the sharing of scientific information between researchers.
All we need to do to use HTML is to learn what type of markup to use to get the results we want.
